Event description: This tour will discover the legacy and history of Rhode Island Jewry within the 2nd oldest synagogue in RI (which is still operating today!). Dive into this hidden gem which is a designated national historical site. Many people might not know that tens of synagogues and thousands of Jews used to live in the Smith Hill area of Providence. After the tour, join us for a discussion on Jewish identity, past, present, and future. What is the importance of our Jewish identity today and moving forward? How does this history connect with the challenges Jews are facing today, and how do we stay strong in our identity while the world tries to bring us down, and how does this identity relate to the modern movement of zionism?
